With just three weeks remaining in the Big Sky Conference regular season, the Portland State Vikings hope the schedule favors them and their run at a sixth consecutive Big Sky Tournament appearance. The Vikings are 5-5 in Big Sky play and in fifth place with six games to play, including four at home. The top six teams will reach the Big Sky Tournament and the Vikings would at least like to get to fourth place - if not better - to get a quarterfinal-round home game.

Portland State men's basketball will have a chance to avenge Sunday's loss to Seattle University on March 2 when the Vikings travel to face the Redhawks at Key Arena. That game will be televised on Fox Sports Net at 8 p.m. Seattle and FSN recently reached an agreement to add the game to the television schedule and set it for an 8 p.m. start. It will be the fifth Portland State game televised in the Portland area this season.

Aaron Broussard's three-point field goal with 0.5 seconds left on the clock gave Seattle University a hard-fought 80-77 non-conference win over Portland State at the Stott Center. The Redhawks handed the Vikings their second straight home defeat in a heartbreaking fashion. Seattle's full-court trapping press created a frenetic pace that meant many spectacular plays and even more turnovers. The Vikings committed a season-high 24 turnovers in the game while Seattle had 22.

Julius Thomas started the second-half rally and Alonzo Brandon kept it going as Portland State won its second straight road game, beating Sacramento State, 76-62. It was also a spirited come-from-behind effort for the second straight game. PSU came back from a 14-point second-half deficit last week against Eastern Washington. On this night, PSU bounced back from an 11-point first-half deficit over the Hornets.

Rather than watch hours of endless pregame Super Bowl hype, Viking basketball fans can watch live sports action this Sunday. The Portland State Vikings will return home for a non-conference game Sunday when they host the Seattle University Redhawks in a 12:05 p.m. game. The contest has been moved up two hours from its original time of 2:05 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the start of the Super Bowl (3:25 p.m. kickoff).

Things look pretty good for PSU's starting shooting guard Melvin Jones, a junior out of Chief Sealth High School in Seattle and North Idaho Junior College. Jones leads the Big Sky Conference in three pointers made (60), is shooting .472 from three-point range (third-best in the league and sixth-best in the nation), and ranks 10th in scoring at 13.3 points per game midway through the 2009-10 Big Sky Conference season.
