Life is all about goals. And Corrine Gilbertson, a sophomore on the Viking women's golf team, has set some pretty lofty ones for herself. Let's start with golf, where her goal is relatively modest: To get better.

With a final-round 76, freshman Britney Yada shot 228 at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by New Mexico State. Yada's score stands as the best 54-hole total by a Viking during the four-event fall season.

All five Portland State golfers broke 80 in the same round for the first time this season, and the Vikings shot 311 as a team in the first round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate Tournament at New Mexico State University.

The Portland State Vikings tied for 11th at the Heather Farr/Colorado Memorial golf tournament which concluded on Tuesday. The Vikings shot 301-317-318=936 in the 54-hole tournament played at Colorado National Golf Club.

The Viking golf team got off to a great start in the opening round of the Heather Farr/Colorado Memorial, shooting 301 to be in seventh place after 18 holes. Portland State was 14 shots behind leader Southern Methodist which shot a one-under par 287. The second round was suspended due to darkness in wet and windy conditions with the majority of the players still on the course. At that point, the Vikings were ninth among 20 teams. Two Vikings had completed their rounds with three others still on the course.
