Portland State Athletics has announced the hiring of Ronnye Harrison as Track and Field and Cross Country Head Coach. Harrison, who served as the interim Head Coach for the past year, has been given the position full-time after a nation-wide search. Harrison will oversee men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field and men's and women's cross country at PSU.

Portland State senior sprinter Jernise Saunders came in 22nd out of 30 competitors in the 200 meter prelims on Thursday evening at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships.

When senior Jernise Saunders steps into the starting blocks for the first round of the 200 meters Thursday evening in Fayetteville, Arkansas, she will be the first sprinter in Portland State history to compete at the NCAA Division I National Championship. The NCAA Championships are being hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.

Of the four events Jernise Saunders regularly competes in, the only Portland State school record which eluded her was in the 100-meter dash. The senior sprinter put an end to that on Friday, running a time of 11.69 in the event while three other Vikings also competed at the NCAA West Regional this weekend.
