PORTLAND, Ore. ? In their final non-conference match of the season, the Vikings could not get on the board as they where shut out by Fresno State 1-0 Sunday afternoon.
Rain dampened the field throughout the first 45 minutes of play, with the Bulldogs taking nine shots in the first period compared to the Vikings' five.
In the second half, the rain was gone and Fresno State was able to find the net early. In the 51st minute, a loose ball in the 6-yard box made its way to Nicole Gutierrez, who hit from straight away for her fourth goal of the season. The shot was one of nine on the day for Gutierrez, who had three of the Bulldogs' five shots-on-goal.
The Vikings had a few of their 11 shots hit the crossbar, but that was as close as they got as the team was shut out for the first time in three games.

Kala Renard, who earned the start after scoring in last week's game against Hawai'i, fired four times for the Vikings, putting one on target.
With the loss, Portland State's record drops to 1-9-2, while Fresno State improves to 4-7-1.
The Vikings will begin conference play on the road next week against Northern Colorado, and will return home to face Northern Arizona on Oct. 12.
