PORTLAND, Ore. ? The Portland State softball team was finally able to open up its fall schedule on Sunday after being rained out the day before, and the Vikings responded with a pair of victories.
PSU downed Blue Mountain College, 5-0, in the morning and then defeated Western Oregon, 8-1, later in the day, as four Vikings pitchers starred on the day.
The Vikings were supposed two play two games on Saturday as well, but those games were cancelled due to rain.
Senior Jessi Even and junior college transfer Carri O'Neil combined to shutout Blue Mountain, while sophomore Nicole Latham and freshman Kendra Suhr limited Western Oregon to just one run.
While the games do not officially count, it did mark the first game for new PSU Head Coach Tobin Echo-Hawk.
Echo-Hawk was pleased with her teams performance, and noted the offensive play of seniors Jamee Rauch and Jana Rae Slayton and freshman Alyssa Roblez.
PSU will close out its fall schedule with two games next Saturday. The Vikings will play Clackamas Community College at 11:45 a.m., and then take on Concordia (OR) at 3:15 p.m. Both games will be at Erv Lind Stadium.
