OGDEN, Utah? Seven members of Portland State soccer were named to the 2008 Big Sky All-Conference teams, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Frankie Ross was selected to the first team,
Dolly Enneking,
Cris Lewis and
Tish Parsons were selected to the second team, and
Suzanne Hinton,
Kala Renard and
Nathalie Wollmann were given honorable mention.
Ross's late-season surge can be credited with her selection to the first team, as the sophomore midfielder scored all of her points this season in conference play. In scoring eight points, Ross also earned the Golden Boot Award, given to the player who scores the most points during conference competition. She will share the honor with Sacramento State's Kim Kemper, Weber State's Hayley McCoy and Northern Colorado's Jessica Zimmerman. Ross is the third Viking to win the Golden Boot?she joins Katie Miyake (2002) and Jamie Blakesley (2004) as recipients of the award. Last year, Ross was named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team.
Enneking led the 2008 Vikings at the end of the regular season in goals (5), points (11) and shots (40). Tuesday's announcement marks the third All-Conference selection for the junior midfielder, who was given honorable mention in 2006 and was placed on the second team last season.
After being named to the Honorable Mention Team the last two years, Lewis's selection to the second team comes on the heels of her best season as a Viking. The junior goalkeeper posted the second-highest save percentage in conference play this fall, and ended the regular season with 121 stops?the most in the conference and the third-highest season save total in school history.
With her selection to the second team, Parsons made it two consecutive days with a conference honor after being named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. One of only two freshmen selected to either the first or second teams, Parsons has started 15 games this season and helped hold Viking opponents to just 0.71 goals per match in conference play.
Hinton has started all 19 matches this fall for PSU, and couples Tuesday's accolade with the honorable mention selection she received in 2006. The junior defender has been an anchor in the Viking back line all season, and received her first Defensive Player of the Week honor two weeks ago.
Starting five matches in conference play, Renard totaled one goal and three assists against Big Sky competition. The freshman midfielder finished the season with seven points, and put 18 of her 27 shots on-goal for a .667 percentage.
Wollmann's selection to the Honorable Mention Team is her third consecutive, and the junior midfielder has been one of four Vikings to start every match this year. Wollmann has also contributed one goal and two assists this fall, the highest season points total of her Viking career.
