Portland State fullback Bobby McClintock has been named third team preseason All-American by the Sports Network, the main news-gathering source for NCAA I Football Championship Subdivision.
McClintock, a 5-10, 240-pound senior-to-be from Coos Bay, is slated to start at fullback again for the Vikings this fall. He comes off a season in which he carried the ball 93 times for 457 yards and six touchdowns to lead the team. McClintock also caught 34 passes for 287 yards. He totaled 744 yards and averaged 5.9 yards per touch. In light of all that, McClintock is considered a better blocker than ball carrier.
In 2006, McClintock earned first team All-Big Sky Conference honors while playing for former head football coach Tim Walsh. He entered the 2007 season rated as the fourth-best fullback in the nation at the FCS level. However, a knee injury in the first game of the year wiped out his season.
After a strong year of rehabilitation, McClintock put up solid numbers in 2008 in Mouse Davis' run-and-shoot offense. He earned honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference and Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors in 2008. He was also named the Big Sky offensive player of the week following a season-opening win over Western Oregon.
McClintock has started all 23 games in his Portland State career - the most of any returning Viking. Following the 2009 season, McClintock will have the option to petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility due to his 2007 injury.
McClintock is the only Viking named to The Sports Network All-America teams. TSN sponsors NCAA I FCS in-season and post-season awards.
