Kahle Scores 29 As PSU Runs Away From NAU In 87-58 Win

PORTLAND, Ore. ? Kelsey Kahle scored 29 points and the Vikings ran away from visiting Northern Arizona in the second half for an 87-58 win in Big Sky Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Kahle scored at least 20 points for the fourth straight game and shot 11-of-16 from the floor in the contest. She also went 7-of-8 from the free throw line and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

"We are working really well as a team right now," said Kahle. "Things are just starting to click for us as a team.

"It feels great to start with two wins in the conference. I love having a new start to go undefeated the rest of the way."

The Vikings led 46-35 at halftime, but outscored the Lumberjacks by 18 in the second half. NAU scored just 14 points during the first 16:35 after the break.

PSU is now 9-5 on the season, and 2-0 in Big Sky play.

NAU fell to 3-12 and 0-2 in the conference.

The game was close throughout the first nine minutes and was tied at 18-18 with 11:05 to go.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Eryn Jones and Claire Faucher put PSU up by six and they didn't trail the rest of the game.

NAU closed to within one, 26-25, at the 6:38 mark on a jumper by Sade Cunningham, but the Viks scored six straight points to push their lead up to seven, 32-25 with 5:23 remaining.

Faucher hit her second 3-pointer of the half with 3:12 left to put PSU up 37-28, and Kahle finished the half with a three-point play to make it 46-35 at the break.

Kahle scored 17 points in the opening 20 minutes, including 11 after the game was tied at 18-18.

Faucher racked up 14 points, Kelli Valentine had 12 and Katia Hadj-Hamou chipped in 10 more.

Jones led PSU with seven assists, and Faucher had six assists and three steals.

Cunningham paced NAU with 19 points and four assists, while Janelle Matthews and Katie Schafer had 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Vikings shot 55.7 percent (34-of-61) for the game and also shot 87.5 percent at the line (14-of-16).

Northern Arizona shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) for the game.

PSU finished with 46 points in the paint, while the Lumberjacks had 18.

Portland State now hits the road for a pair of conference games. First up is a 6:00 p.m. (PT) game at Weber State on Jan. 8.
