PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State volleyball team will add one of Hawaii's best prep players to its team next season, as head coach Michael Seemann announced the signing of Kaeli Patton to a National Letter of Intent today.

Patton is a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Radford High School in Honolulu, where she was a first team Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West first team honoree this season.

"I think she is going to be a dynamic player for us on the outside," said Seemann. "She is a high-flyer and has a whip for an arm. She is going to provide some offensive punch for us."

In 2008, Patton took part in the USA Volleyball High Performance Program, and was an A1 invitee to the USAV High Performance Developmental Camp.

Patton has an extensive background in club volleyball as well. This past summer, she helped her Asics Rainbow 16s Black team to first place in the national division at the SCVA SoCAL Qualifier, and to the USAV Aloha Region championship.

A second team all-league outside hitter as a junior, Patton was a four-year varsity team member for the Rams and was the team MVP this fall. She is also a standout track and field athlete, having won the OIA high jump title as a junior. Patton ended up third at state in the high jump, and helped the school's 4x100 meter relay team win the OIA and state titles. She also finished third at state in the 100 meters.

The 2009 Radford track team won the OIA championship and went on to finish third in the state of Hawaii. The 2008 squad also won the OIA championship.

Patton has also excelled in the sport of Karate, and in 2000 was the United States National Karate Federation (USNKF) National Kumite Champion. She is currently a Hawaii Okinawa Karate-Do Shudokan black belt.
