PORTLAND, Ore. – For the second year in a row, Portland State's
Erica Jepsen has been named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The senior middle blocker is just the third player in Portland State volleyball history to earn first team honors, and is the second to earn the prestigious award twice, joining Hannah Long (1996 and 1997).
Jepsen carries a 3.97 cumulative grade point average in speech and hearing science. She was one of six players chosen to the first team in District VIII, and was the only player from a Big Sky Conference school to be named to the first, second or third teams.
A native of Kennewick, Wash., Jepsen's GPA was the highest on the District VIII first team. Of the 120 student-athletes honored in the University Division across the nation, only 23 had higher GPA's than Jepsen.
Joining Jepsen on the first team were: Jill Collymore (Sr, Washington, 3.77), Kayli Broadbent (Jr., Utah Valley, 3.90), Jackie Albright (Sr., Washington State, 3.56), Alix Klineman (Jr., Stanford, 3.53) and Karolina Bartkowiak (Jr., Utah, 3.57). Collymore and Jepsen were the only repeat first team selections.
On the floor, Jepsen is fifth nationally in blocks per set, averaging 1.57. She is also 90th in the country in hitting percentage with a .331 mark. She has helped Portland State to a 16-7 record. The Vikings are currently in first place in the Big Sky at 10-2.
