Pair of Vikings Conclude Day One at California Multi Event

BERKELEY, Calif.
- Vikings Joenisha Vinson and J.J. Rosenberg made a strong showing on day one of the Cal Multi Event with Vinson sitting second and Rosenberg in ninth place. Vinson recorded 3,021 points in the heptathlon and is currently the top collegiate competitor. Professional Sharon Day is the leader in the event with 3,594 points.

Vinson's highlight performance of day one came in the final event, the 200-meters, with a personal-best time of 24.81 seconds, besting her old mark of 25.07. The mark moves her up to No. 8 all-time at PSU and qualifies her for the Big Sky Championship in the event.

She also ran 14.25 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, cleared four feet, 11.75 inches in the high jump and threw 32-10.25 in the shot put for a day one score of 3,021 points. Vinson is a mere 31 points shy of her best day one best-score from last year's Big Sky Championship.

Rosenberg, competing in his first decathlon, finished his first day with a score of 3,213 points and is currently in ninth-place.

He highlighted his day by winning the 400-meters with a time of 49.62 seconds, an event that earned him junior college all-american honors at Lane Community College, and defeating his closest competitor by .65 seconds. Rosenberg also finished fifth in the opening race, the 100-meters with a 11.30. He also jumped 20-4 in the long jump.

Worth noting, Rosenberg sits ahead of 2010 NCAA decathlon runner-up Michael Morrison of California, who recorded a no height in the high jump.

Former Viking all-american Nick Trubachik is also competing at the event and finished day one in third-place with a score of 3,723 points. Trubachik is looking to again qualify for the U.S. national championship and the U.S. Olympic trials.

Vinson will start day two at 10:05 a.m. tomorrow with the long jump and Rosenberg will begin the day at 11:55 a.m. in the 110-meter hurdles. Fans can follow from home with the link at the top of the page.
