Day Two of Cal Multi Event Canceled; Vikings Still Set For Stanford

BERKELEY, Calif. - Due to high winds and rain at California's Edwards Stadium, the second day of the "Group A" decathlon and heptathlon have been canceled. Portland State athlete's J.J. Rosenberg and Joenisha Vinson will now have to qualify for the Big Sky Championship at a different event.

Vinson finished day one with a score of 3,021 points in the heptathlon with three events to go and 979 points shy of qualifying for the Big Sky Outdoor Championship. She finished in second-place at the conclusion and was the top-collegiate finisher, trailing only professional Sharon Day. Vinson recorded a 24.81 in the 200-meters to finish second in the race.

Rosenberg scored 3,213 points in the first five events and needed to reach 6,000 to automatically qualify for the conference championship. He won the 400-meters with a time of 49.62 seconds and was in ninth-place overall.

The Vikings duo will likely compete at another multi event to make up for the inclement weather and the announcement will be made on GoViks.com.

"It feels like just another day in Portland out here," laughed Head Coach Ronnye Harrison, "This is the kind of weather we train in everyday." Harrison said he's never seen weather like this down in the Bay area during spring break.

He was able to find a positive a outcome with the weather cancellation though, he said "It will be business as usual in our final practice this afternoon and hopefully at the meet as well. While other teams might run for umbrellas, we'll just keep practicing."

With fingers crossed, Portland State will compete at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., March 25 and 26. Live results of the meet can be followed on with the link at the top of the page.
