Luke Leddige finished day one of the Big Sky Championship heptathlon and decathlon competitions with scores of 3,180 points and 3,122 points, respectively. Vinson is currently in second place overall and Leddige is in 10th.
Vinson, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., trails Montana's Lindsay Hall by 76 points. Hall finished the day with a score of 3,256 points. Vinson's first day was highlighted with a new PR in the 200-meters with the sixth-best time in school history at 24.61 seconds. The time beats her previous best by .20 seconds. She opened the meet with a 100-meter hurdle time of 14.01 seconds and finished first in both events.
A native of Beaverton and a graduate Southridge High School, Leddige, finished the first day of his first-ever decathlon with a score of 3,122 points. "It was a tough first day, but it's smooth-sailing from here," said Leddige after the 400-meters race. His best finish of the day was in the shot put, with a throw of 38-3.50 to finish fifth and score 586 points. Day two events, the 110-meter hurdles and the discus, are his two strongest events.
Both Leddige and Vinson are attempting to qualify for their individual national meets, as Leddige is attempting to qualify for the USATF Jr. National meet June 23-25 and Vinson is looking to qualify the for the NCAA Championship June 8-11.
