Zach Carpenter Wins Second Straight

PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore Zach Carpenter won his second straight cross country event Saturday morning at the Pier Park Invitational hosted by the University of Portland. The men's team finished second overall while the women's team finished fourth.

Carpenter finished the 8,000-meter race in a time of 18:39.45 to pace the field. He finished nearly two seconds faster than John Carley of Willamette University who finished second with a time of 18:41.30. Cary Dunagan also posted a top-10 finish with a time of 19:39.11 to finish ninth for the Vikings.

On the women's side, Amber Rozcicha paced the Vikings with a 10th place finish in the women's 5,000-meter race. She finished with a time of 18:05.37. Keikoanne Hollins posted the next best time for the Portland State women with a time of 20:01.55 to finish 25th.

The Portland State men and women's cross country teams will next compete in two weeks at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
