NAMPA, Idaho – Portland State indoor track and field senior
Geronne Black didn't waste any time in recording her inaugural first-place finish of the 2012-13 campaign, taking top-honors in the 60-meter dash at the Jacksons Open, in Nampa Idaho, Friday afternoon. PSU participated in three events between the men and women's squads on the first day of the two-day meet, which served as PSU's season-opener.
Black, who entered the event with a program and conference-record time of 7.36 in the 60-meter dash, bested 35 other sprinters, clocking in with a time of 7.45. Two other PSU sprinters finished with top-10 times in the same event as fifth-year runner,
Anaiah Rhodes and sophomore
Jazmin Ratcliff turned in solid performances as the duo finished seventh and ninth, respectively.
In the 60-meter hurdles, fifth-year competitor,
Joenisha Vinson took fourth overall, with a time of 8.71. The Vikings once again dominated the top-10 in the event as Ratcliff finished sixth (8.84), Senior
Cassandra Sidner followed close behind with a time of 9.00 and a seventh-place finish while fifth-year runner,
Ashley Frazier took ninth with a time of 9.41.
On the men's side, PSU competed in only one event during the meet's first day as sophomores
Michael Kubisiak and
Jake Ovgard led the way for Viks in the 60-meter dash, as the pair tied with Michael Davis of Saint Martin's for sixth-place with a time of 7.08. Freshman
Sheldon Prince and senior
Jordan Bird were the next PSU sprinters to finish with times of 7.23, and 7.24, respectively.
