Iowa State Qualifier Schedule - PDF
PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior
Geronne Black and senior
Karene King will have one more chance to advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships as they head to the Iowa State Qualifier in Ames, Iowa this Saturday, March 3.
Black took the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship in the women's 60-meter dash last weekend at the conference championship in Flagstaff, Ariz. with an unadjusted time of 7.36 setting the Big Sky all-time record. Here altitude-adjusted time is 7.40, which ranks her 33rd overall in the country. She is looking to bring her time down to the 7.30 range, which would put her 13th in the country and advance her to the National Championships at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.
King, who also took the Big Sky Championship and set the conferences' all-time record in the women's 200-meters, is extending her final season at Portland State Saturday with the hopes to make it all the way to the National Championship meet. King set the Big Sky record with an unadjusted time of 23.77 but her altitude-adjusted time of 23.91 is 49th in the country.
Along with running in the women's 200-meters, King will also compete in the 60-meter dash at the Iowa State Qualifier. She finished second at the Big Sky Championship behind Black with an unadjusted career-best time of 7.49.
The 2012 Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship will be held March 9-10 at Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho and hosted by Boise State University. Black and King have both run twice at Jacksons Indoor this season with Black posting a then-Big Sky record in the 60-meters of 7.41.
