SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Mandy Keifer qualified for the Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the women's heptathlon and
Amber Rozcicha won the women's 5,000-meters Friday at the MONDO Mid-Major Challenge hosted by Sacramento State.
Rozcicha won the 5,000-meters with a personal-best time of 17:17.11 to improve on her Big Sky Championship qualifying time by three second and move closer to third all-time at Portland State for the event.
Keifer totaled 4,630 points over the seven events of the women's heptathlon to qualify for the championship and did not finish lower than third place in the final three events of the heptathlon on Friday. She started the day with a personal-best distance of 17-00.00 (5.18m) in the long jump and then took second in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 122-01 (37.22m).
She finished fifth in the 800-meters with a personal-best time of 2:29.47 to earn 700 points for the event and finish with the Big Sky qualifying total of 4,630 in the heptathlon.
Mark Bozarth-Dreher finished his competition in his first ever men's decathlon and finished fourth overall with 5,246 points. He finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.70 before finishing third in the discus.
He then finished fourth in both the pole vault and javelin events. He wrapped up his decathlon with an outdoor track personal-best in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:25.28 to win the event and earn 776 points.
Along with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon, the Vikings began competition in individual events.
Jaret Rockenbach finished 13th overall in the men's discus throw with a personal-best distance of 139-02 (42.41m).
Spencer Moe threw a season-best distance of 107-00 (32.61m) in the event.
Sean Mackelvie finished fourth overall in the men's long jump with an outdoor personal-best jump of 21-06.00 (6.55m) while
Jacob Lehman posted a jump of 19-11.00 (6.07m).
Montaisha Moore finished ninth in the women's long jump with a distance of 16-07.25 (5.06m) while
P'Lar Dorsett, jumping for the first time in her career, jumped a distance of 14-10.00 (4.52m).
Zach Carpenter broke the 15 minute mark in the men's 5,000-meter run Friday night with a season-best time of 14:58.82 to finish fifth in the event.
Levi Younger ran the 5,000-meters for the first time at Portland State and finished with a time of 16:52.01.
The Vikings continue competition at the MONDO Mid-Major Challenge on Saturday with a full slate of track and field events.
