EUGENE, Ore.
– Vikings sprint out of the blocks on the first day of the Oregon Relays Friday night at Historic Hayward Field with five top-10 finishes. Sierra Brooks led the way for the Vikings with a sixth place finish in the women's 200-meter dash.
 
Brooks tied her career-best time of 24.67 in the 200-meter dash to win her heat and finish sixth overall. Dominique Maloney finished fourth in her heat and 10th overall in the event with a personal-best time of 25.00. Jazmin Ratcliff posted a time of 25.17 while Anaiah Rhodes and Dejuanae Toliver ran times of 25.20 and 25.55 respectively.
 
In the men's 200-meter dash, Jake Ovgard posted a career-best time of 22.30 to finish fourth in his heat and 11th overall.
 
Shae Carson started the day for the Vikings in the women's discus throw. She posted a season best distance of 135-08 (41.35m) to finish sixth overall.
 
Amber Rozcicha improved on her fourth all-time mark in the women's 1,500-meters with a career-best time of 4:34.76 to finish fourth in her heat. Erica Contos ran a personal-best time of 5:24.01 in her race of the 1,500-meters.
 
John Lawrence finished his men's 1,500-meter race with a career-best time of 3:56.32. Max Zemtsov set a personal-best while Mark Bozarth-Dreher set a season-best time in the 1,500-meters with times of 4:16.09 and 4:17.81 respectively.
 
Brandy Castillo set a personal-best time in the women's 5,000-meters with a time of 17:47.64 while her sister Brittany Castillo posted the fifth best time in Portland State history in the event with a time of 17:22.87. On the men's side, Jake Schwartz ran the men's 5,000-meters for the first time in his career and posted a time of 17:08.22.
 
Mandy Keifer posted a career-best mark in the women's long jump with a distance of 17-02.75 (5.25m) to finish third overall.
 
The Vikings continue action at the Oregon Relays Saturday with events slated to begin at 11 a.m. PDT.
