Vikings Look to Take Rematch with Redhawks


PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team heads to Seattle, Wash. for a rematch against Seattle University this Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m. at the Seattle University Tennis Center. The Vikings fell to the Redhawks on Feb. 10 at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash. by a score of 5-2.
 
The Redhawks come into the weekend with an 11-12 record on the season and have won two straight with a pair of 6-1 wins over North Dakota and Idaho State.
 
The Vikings and Redhawks faced off on Feb. 10 with the Redhawks taking the dual by a score of 5-2. Seattle took the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches to take the victory.
 
Marti Pellicano won her No. 2 singles match in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 10-6) while Alexa McDonald took her No. 4 singles match in straight sets (7-5, 6-4).

The Vikings are coming off a tough weekend in the state of Colorado where they fell to Colorado State by a score of 7-0 and then fell to Northern Colorado in Big Sky Conference play by a score of 6-1.
 
Freshman Megan Govi picked up the loan singles match victory for the Vikings against Northern Colorado. She defeated Jennifer Buchanan in a three set No. 4 singles match. She took the first set 6-2 before dropping the second set 7-5. She then took a 10-point match tiebreaker by a score of 10-7 to take the match.
 
Following this weekend in Seattle, the Vikings will wrap up the 2012 season at home with a pair of Big Sky duals at Club Green Meadows. The Vikings will take on Weber State on April 13 at 10 a.m. before closing out the season with Northern Arizona on April 14 with Northern Arizona at 1 p.m.
