- Senior thrower Sean MacKelvie broke the Portland State record in the men's javelin Thursday at the NCAA West Prelims in Austin, Texas to advance to the national final of the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship, June 7 in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by Drake University.

MacKelvie's first attempt set the new Portland State record in the event with a distance of 228-03 (69.57m) passing the previous record of 227-11 set by Jordan Senn in 2005. He was passed by three throwers but did not have to make a throw in the finals and finished ninth, advancing to the national finals.
