PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State men and women's track teams will have one more chance to either improve on or achieve qualifying marks for next week's 2012 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Oregon Twilight this Saturday, May 5. Events are slated to start at 5 p.m. PDT.
 
LAST YEAR AT THE OREGON TWILIGHT:
Geronne Black won the 100-meters while Amber Rozcicha and Nate Endicott posted outstanding results in the 800-meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, for the Portland State track team at the Oregon Twilight meet.
 
Black won the 100-meters with a time of 11.91 seconds and defeated Oregon's Alexandria Davidson by .03 seconds. Rozcicha, a native of Newberg, turned in a career-best performance in the 800-meters with a time of 2:14.79 to finish third overall in the event.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Junior Geronne Black set the Big Sky and Portland State all-time record in the women's outdoor 100-meter dash at the Brutus Hamilton Open/Invitational with a time of 11.52 to finish second overall in the event.
 
Sean Mackelvie finished second at the Pacific Twilight in the men's javelin with a season-best distance 218-02 which leads the Big Sky Conference. Jaret Rockenbach moved into the top 10 in the men's shot put with a career best distance of 49-00.75 (14.95m).
 
Sarah Hanchett put together another big day as she won the women's 800-meters in a personal-best time of 2:12.08 which places her fifth all-time at Portland State for the event. Her time also qualifies her for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the event.
 
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Senior thrower Sean Mackelvie was named the Big Sky Conference's Male Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Pacific Twilight on April 28. Mackelvie has led the conference in the men's javelin throw all season and threw a season best 218-02 at the twilight. His throw currently has him ranked 22nd in the NCAA West Regional Qualifying List.
 
TAKING OVER THE RECORD BOOKS:
Junior sprinter Geronne Black continues to make an impact in the Portland State record books. Black set the Big Sky Conference and Portland State all-time record in the women's outdoor 100-meter dash at the Brutus Hamilton Open/Invitational on April 28 with a time of 11.52 in the event finals. Her time breaks the previous conference record of 11.55 set by Joyce Rainwater of Eastern Washington in 1995. Along with her outdoor 100-meters record, she holds the Portland State and Big Sky Conference all-time record in the indoor 60-meter dash.
 
WEST REGIONAL RANKINGS:
Portland State currently has two individuals and one relay team listed on the NCAA Division I West Outdoor Qualifying List's top-48, the qualifying standard for most events at the championship, held May 24-26 in Austin, Texas. Portland State has sent as many as nine athletes to the regional (2006) and sent six last season. Listed below are the Vikings who rank amongst the region's best:
