DAY ONE RESULTS
SEATTLE, Wash. – For the first time this season,
Joenisha Vinson competed in a pentathlon event, and came in sixth of 28 opponents, to highlight the first day of the UW Invitational for the Portland State track and field teams.
Vinson scored 3,654 points through the five events finishing in the top-10 in three. The senior took third in both the 60m hurdles (8.67) and the shot put (12.52) while taking fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.45m. Her point total of 3,654 is the second-best in school history, only 32 points off her personal and program best. Her score also qualifies her for the Big Sky Championship.
The Viks also competed in the 200-meter dash with
Sierra Brooks recording the team's best time in event with a mark of 25.37 and a 13th place finish.
Anaiah Rhodes and
Jazmin Ratcliff followed close behind with times of 25.39 and 25.40, finishing 14th and 16th, respectively.
Sheldon Prince and Christian Wood ran the 200m for the men's squad with Prince tallying the Viks' best finish, coming in 11th with a time of 22.30. Wood ran his first race in 2012-13 and tallied a time of 23.41 in the event.
Portland State's distance runners got some work on the first day of the invitational as well as PSU competed in the 5000-meter run and the distance medley.
Camelia Mayfield came in 12th overall in the 5k with a time of 17:43.79, while teammate
Valerie Mitchell followed with a mark of 18:43.98.
In the distance medley, the team of
Keikoanne Hollins,
Sarah Dean,
Erica Contos and
Brandy Castillo finished with a mark of 12:48.55.
