Joenisha Vinson has been named Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week. Vinson wins the award after her impressive performance at the UW Invitational this past weekend as she took sixth in the pentathlon and was only 32 points off her own school record.
Vinson scored 3,654 points through the five events finishing in the top-10 in three. The senior took third in both the 60m hurdles (8.67) and the shot put (12.52) while taking fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.45m. Her point total of 3,654 is the second-best in school history, only 32 points off her personal and program best. Her score also qualified her for the Big Sky Championship.
Vinson is latest in a string of three-straight Athlete of the Week awards the Viks have garnered after senior
Geronne Black had tallied two-consecutive accolades the last two weeks.
Portland State track and field will have an opportunity to compete in a different time zone this coming weekend as the teams will next travel to New York City to compete in the NY Collegiate Invitational Feb. 1-2.
