Portland, OR - Playing its best game of the season so far, Portland State beat UC Davis, 79-63, to sweep all three games of its weekend tournament.

Four Vikings scored in double figures, led by 21 points from DaShaun Wiggins in just 21 minutes of play. PSU led virtually wire-to-wire after the Aggies made the opening basket.

PSU has now won four games in a row for the first time since late in the 2011-12 season. The Vikings are 4-1 overall.

Joining Wiggins in double-figures was Aaron Moore with 18 points and eight rebounds. Andre Winston Jr. added 15 points on 6-8 field goals, and Tim Douglas added 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and no turnovers at the point.

UC Davis, known for its desire to play at pace, kept the tempo slow early in this one. The Vikings responded well, executing in the half court. PSU hit 14-28 shots in the half, including six three-pointers, and committed only three turnovers.

A 7-2 run to close out the first half allowed the Vikings to take a 40-32 lead to intermission. A Marcus Hall three-pointer capped a 9-2 Viking run to open the second half and push the lead to 49-34. PSU had control from there.

The Aggies' Corey Hawkins made a pair of three-pointers to cut into the Viking lead. That had UC Davis was as close as seven at the 8:37 mark. But Douglas scored five of the Vikings' next seven points and PSU was back head by 14.

The Aggies never threatened after that.

"You look at field goal percentage - they shot 38% - we out-rebounded them and we kept (ourselves) under 12 turnovers. Those are our three goals every single game. I tell our guys if you do those, you are going to win," said Viking Coach Tyler Geving. "We did all three tonight and we ended up winning by 16."

Portland State shot .481 from the field, made 9-20 three-pointers, and shot .750 at the line. The Vikings also won the rebound battle, 37-34.

Hawkins led all scorers with 23 points. Josh Ritchart added 17 points and seven rebounds for UCD. The Aggies are now 3-3 on the season.

There was no declared Portland State Tournament champion due to the round-robin format of the three-day, four-team event. But, Portland State essentially took the honor, going 3-0. UC Davis was 2-1, Loyola went 1-2 and Southern Illinois Edwardsville was 0-3.

GAME NOTES: Wiggins came off the bench for his 21 points. He made 11-14 free throws with most of them coming late in the game, adding seven rebounds and three assists… for the tournament, Tim Douglas had 43 points, 18 assists and only three turnovers… "Tim is playing really well. But what he is doing a really good job of is leading this team," said Geving… PSU did not have more than nine turnovers in any of the tournament games… Aaron Moore scored 48 points with 25 rebounds in the three games… the first five games in the tournament were decided by five points or less... Portland State is off until next Friday when the Vikings travel to Boise State. Game time is 5 p.m. PT and a live audio stream is available at www.GoViks.com. PSU returns home on Dec. 7 to host the Portland Pilots.
