Geronne Black Earns Fourth Big Sky Track Athlete of the Week Award of 2013

OGDEN, Utah – Death, taxes and senior Geronne Black earning a Big Sky Athlete of the Week Award, the latter has become a new constant on the Park Blocks. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native, tallied her fourth conference weekly honor in five weeks (with the only respite being a week she didn't compete) and second-consecutive award, after another record setting performance in the 60-meter dash.

For the third time this season, Black set the new Portland State and Big Sky standard in the 60m this past weekend, when she competed in the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The sprinter shaved .03 of a second off her previous best of 7.30 seconds. Her new mark is sixth best in the country having beaten out runners from Mississippi, University of Central Florida and Oregon,

Portland State has been well represented on the women's side of the athlete of the week awards as Portland State has recorded a Big Sky Athlete of the Week all five weeks of competition with Black tallying four and Joenisha Vinson winning field athlete of the week on Jan. 29.

Black and the Portland State track and field teams will have one last tune-up meet before the Big Sky Indoor Championship, participating at a meet hosted by the University of Portland, scheduled for Feb. 17. The Big Sky Championship will be the following week, hosted by Montana State in Bozeman, Mont. The event is slated for Feb. 22-23.
