Last Year's Championship
At the 2012 Indoor Championships
Karene King and
Geronne Black took center stage for the Viks as the two both took down Big Sky Conference records on the final day at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz. Black broke the conference record in the women's indoor 60-meter dash and King followed up that effort with a record setting performance in the women's 200-meter dash.
On the men's side,
Sean Mackelvie finished fourth overall in the men's triple jump with a career-best distance of 45-10.75 (13.99m) to earn the men's team five points.
John Lawrence finished ninth in the men's mile run with a time of 4:27.05.
Jaret Rockenbach finished 12th overall in the men's shot put with a career-best distance of 49-10.50 (15.20m). The Portland State men's team finished ninth with eight team points.
Clean Sweep?
With her win in the 60-meters last season, Black is zeroing in on winning a Big Sky individual title in all four years of her PSU career. The senior sprinter is a two-time 60-meter dash champion and a one time 55-meter dash title-holder. Black will have a chance to make it two 55m championships in Bozeman, Mont., this weekend. Black will be part of some special company as Brandi Prieto (CSN 1997-2000) and Elouise Rudy (MSU 2006-09) are the only four-time repeat champions in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. While Black has competed in two events rather than just one as the two previous four-time champions had done , Black's events are both short sprint events.
