PORTLAND, Ore. – For the first time in program history the Portland State men's tennis team hosted a Big Sky matchup on the campus of Portland State and made the most of the opportunity, downing North Dakota (1-6, 0-3), 7-0, on Wednesday morning. The Viks earned their first conference win in the familiar confines of the Peter W. Stott Center rooftop courts, improving to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Big Sky.

PSU continued its stellar doubles play as all three tandems recorded victories.

The No. 2 team of Ian Risenhoover and Antoine Bechmann improved to 4-1 on the season, defeating UND's Connor Oberle and Will Beirnat, 8-1.

The newly reunited team of Abhinav Mishra and Alec Marx stayed undefeated and clinched the doubles point for Portland State, upending Ryan McGuigan and Joe Lee, 8-3.

Meanwhile on court No. 1 Brent Wheeler and Stratton Gilmore made short work of Josh Oothoudt and Grant Bakke to the tune of 8-2 to sweep doubles play.

Things were a little tighter in singles play as the Viks were put to the test.

Connor Gilmore cruised through his singles match from the No. 3 spot pushing PSU's advantage to, 2-0, with a 6-1, 6-0, win against McGuigan.

Wheeler was the next Viking to record a victory rebounding from a rough few games in the first set to take the frame 7-5, and responded in the second with a 6-4 win, making it 3-0 in favor of Portland State.

In the No. 2 spot, Stratton Gilmore clinched the dual match for the Viks, taking the first stanza 6-4, dropping the second 6-1 but powering through a decisive third, 6-1.

With the victory claimed, the Vikings didn't let off the gas as Bechmann garnered a victory off of Oothoudt, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, while Lukas Kortus and Ian Risenhoover earned their first conference wins of the year as Kortus defeated Bakke, 7-5, 6-4, and Risenhoover prevailed over Biernat, 6-2, 7-5.

The Portland State men's team will now have a break for exams and will next play a home match at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash., on March 29 when it hosts Montana. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
