FULL RESULTS
EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland State track and field teams kicked off their outdoor season on Saturday, competing in both team's inaugural meet in Eugene Oregon, taking part in the Oregon Preview. Both teams saw strong showings recording more than 25 top-10 finishes between both track and field events.
On the women's side the sprinters picked up where they left off from the indoor season with
Sierra Brooks,
Jazmin Ratcliff, and
Cassandra Sidner taking second, third and fourth, respectively in the 100-meter dash. Brooks tallied a time of 12.25 seconds while Ratcliff ran the event with a mark of 12.30 and Sidner with a time of 12.71.
Later on the in the meet Sidner impressed again, this time in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in with a time of 14.25, placing second.
Dominique Maloney recorded her first top-performance in the 200-meter dash, pacing the competition with a mark of 24.46. Ratcliff finished close behind, coming in fifth with a mark of 25.36.
Maloney kept it going in the 400-meter dash coming in third, with a time of 55.79, while Dejaunae Toliver got on the board with a top-10 finish, securing a mark of 59.36 and a 10th-place showing.
Portland State women's distance runners also impressed in the team's first meet as
Bianca Martin ran the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:32.58 and a third-place finish while senior standout
Amber Rozcicha ran to a fifth-place finish with a time of 9:47.17.
Camelia Mayfield finished shortly thereafter with a 9:52.19 time, coming in sixth.
The PSU women's team secured a pair of first-place finishes in the field events as both
Montaisha Moore and
Hanna Johnson took the honor.
Moore accomplished the feat in the triple jump coming in with a mark of 40-00.00 (12.19m) to top all other entrants.
Meanwhile
Hanna Johnson earned top-marks in the shotput securing a distance of 44-02.00 (13.46m) in the event.
Sydney Johnson also competed and recorded a mark of 41.03-25, (12.58m) coming in fourth.
Allison Burkett threw for the first time this track and field season and didn't waste time attaining results placing second in the javelin with a distance of 144-00 (43.90m).
On the men's side
Jake Ovgard,
Sheldon Prince and
Michael Kubisiak looked impressive in the 100-meter dash coming in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Ovgard and Prince both finished with times of 10.99 seconds, while Kubisiak tallied a time of 11.01.
In his inaugural race of the outdoor season
Tony Crisofulli, the current program record holder for the outdoor 800-meter run, came in 10th overall in the event with a 1:54.71 mark.
Rockwell Tufty kept the men going with top-10 finishes with his 10th-place showing in the high jump, recording a mark of 6-01.50 (1.87m).
Meanwhile in the jump events
Sean MacKelvie and
Tyson Stipic both competed in the triple jump as they came in sixth and seventh overall, respectively. MacKelvie posted a mark of 44-03.50 (13.50m), while Stipic registered a mark of 43-10.00 (13.36m) in the event.
Selmar Hutchins had a notable finish in his first javelin event as a member of the Portland State men's track and field team, coming in fifth with a distance of 190-03 (58.00m).
The Portland State men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action as several members will compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on March 27-30 while others will compete at the Stanford Invite in Stanford, Calif., from March 29-30.
