PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior sprinter Geronne Black has an opportunity to put a big exclamation point on what was a dominant indoor track and field campaign this year, as she heads to Fayetteville Ark. on March 8, having qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship in the 60-meter dash.

A national title would be icing on the cake of her 2012-13 indoor season that saw such accomplishments as setting the conference and school record in the 60m several times, winning a Big Sky Track Athlete of the Week award in every week she competed, recording four total, and helping her team tally its highest placing in the Big Sky championships since 2006, a second-place finish .

Last weekend Black secured a clean sweep for individual championships, making it four-straight years the sprinter has tallied an individual conference title, taking first in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.86 seconds. The time set the new conference and school record in the event.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native finished her PSU career with two indoor 60-meter dash Big Sky titles and two indoor 55-meter conference championships. To go along with her gold medal this year, she also tallied a bronze in the 200-meter event to round out her weekend.

Black will compete on the first day of the event on March 8, with the day starting 3:30 p.m. PST. Black is scheduled to run the 60m at 4:55 PST.

The senior also had an opportunity to chat with Joe Becker from KGW channel 8, to talk about her season and her national championship prospects. Check back to GoViks.com for an update on when the segment will air.
