<strong>SEDONA, Ariz.</strong> – The Portland State men’s tennis team ended the 2013 campaign on a high-note as the squad finished the season with a two-match winning streak, after defeating Sothern Utah on Friday, and most recently, Northern Arizona this morning in Sedona, Ariz. The Viks took the doubles point and then three singles matches to finish the year with a 9-12 record and a 3-7 conference mark.<br />

In what has been a familiar scene for PSU in the second-half of the season, the Vikings took the doubles point thanks to wins from its top-two doubles pairings, as
Ian Risenhoover and
Antoine Bechmann and
Abhinav Mishra and
Alec Marx, tallied victories. This marks the ninth time in 10 matches that Portland State has secured the doubles point.<br />

The Lumberjacks drew first blood in doubles action however as the team of Dominic Bermudez and Patrick Schimmelbauer downed the Portland State tandem of
Connor Gilmore and
Lukas Kortus, 8-5 from the No. 1 spot.<br />
<br />
Risenhoover and Bechmann evened things up on line No. 2 as the duo ground out an 8-5 victory, defeating Robert Martin and Trevor Unger. The PSU team concludes the season with an impressive 9-2 record and winning eight of its last nine matches.<br />
<br />
The doubles point was left to the No. 3 team of Mishra and Marx, who aside from the point decision, also had a perfect season hanging in the balance. The Viking tandem, who entered the contest with a flawless, 9-0 record since teaming up midway through the year, edged the NAU pairing of Kester Black and Shaun Waters in a eight-all tiebreaker, defeating the Lumberjacks tandem, 9-8 (7-4). With the win, Marx and Mishra finished 2013 with a perfect 10-0 record and helped give the Vikings a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.<br />

NAU evened it at 1-1 from line No. 2 as Kortus was downed by Bermudez, 6-0, 6-2.<br />
<br />
The Lumberjacks took their first lead in the match from spot No. 3 as Martin defeated Mishra, 7-5, 6-4, making it 2-1 in favor of Northern Arizona.<br />

Doubles teammate,
Alec Marx brought the dual score back to even as he earned his fourth-straight singles win, defeating Kester, 7-5, 6-3, tying things at 2-2. Marx, who entered the year looking for his first division I singles win, has now reeled off three-straight, ending the year with a 4-1 singles mark.<br />

Bechmann gave PSU its second lead of the contest as he edged Schimmelbauer in a three-set battle, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, earning his eighth win from the No. 1 spot, and giving PSU a 3-2 lead. The junior from Strasbourg, France concludes 2013 with an 8-10 singles record, going 5-5 in conference and ending the season on a two-match winning streak.<br />
<br />
Risenhoover clinched the dual for Portland State, giving fans an opportunity to see the future of PSU tennis, downing Alan Barrios, 6-1, 6-3. Risenhoover ends the season on a two-match winning streak and finishing his first campaign with PSU with a 4-3 singles record.<br />
<br />
Northern Arizona took the final match as Unger bested Lubek from line No. 6 position, 6-4, 6-3, but the Viks came away with the 4-3 victory.<br />
<br />
The Portland State men’s tennis team finished this season with the most wins the team has tallied under head coach Jay sterling with a 9-12 mark as well as the most conference wins under Sterling, with a 3-7 record.<br />
<br />
