Portland State Track and Field Tallies a Multitude of Big Sky Qualifying Times at Willamette Invite

SALEM, Ore. – The Portland State men and women's track and field teams tallied nine Big Sky qualifying marks along with a multitude of personal-bests as the Viks competed at Willamette Invite in Salem, Ore., on Saturday.

The Portland State women's sprinters got things going for PSU starting with the 100-meter dash as Sierra Brooks and Dominique Maloney took the top-two spots, both qualifying for the Big Sky outdoor championship. Brooks came in first with a time of 11.91 seconds and Maloney followed close behind with a mark of 12.01. Jazmin Ratcliff, Cassandra Sidner and Adia White also competed in the event as the trio all recorded top-10 finishes. Ratcliff came in fourth with a time of 12.24, Sidner finished sixth (12.30) and White came in ninth with a mark of 12.57.

Maloney and Brooks mirrored their strong efforts from the 100m to the 200m as this time it was Maloney that took first with a mark of 24.63 and Brooks took second with  a mark of 25.01.

In distance events PSU qualified two more runners for the Big Sky championships hosted by PSU, as Amber Rozcicha and Camelia Mayfield both punched their tickets to the conference meet.

Rozcicha qualified for the 1500-meter event, coming in with a time of 4:31.99. Meanwhile Mayfield continued her stellar inaugural campaign with Portland State as she came in third with a mark of 17:00.41. With that time Mayfield also tallied the third-best finish in program history.

PSU turned impressive performances in the 100-meter hurdle event as Sidner and Ratcliff came in first and second, respectively and the duo also posted the third and sixth-best times in Portland State history in the process. Sidner recorded a time of 14.05 seconds in the event while Ratcliff followed close behind with a mark of 14.43.

In field events Portland State saw production from the usual suspects as Hanna JohnsonSydney Johnson and Allison Burkett all qualified for the Big Sky outdoor championships.

Hanna Johnson impressed in the shot put, tallying a distance of 44-08 (13.61m) coming in second in the event. That mark was also the sixth-best distance ever tossed at PSU.

Sydney Johnson took care of business in the discus with a third-place finish and a mark of 148-07 (45.12) which was PSU's fourth-best mark in the event history.

Finally Burkett corralled a Big Sky championship qualifying time in the javelin event, launching it to the tune of 140-7.25 (42.85), tallying a first-place finish. Her mark was fourth-best for the program.

On the men's side, despite not tallying a Big Sky championship qualifying times the Viks did reel in nine top-10 finishes.
In the 100-meter dash, Michael Kubisiak and Jake Ovgard tallied second-place and fourth-place finishes with marks of 11.00 and 11.12, respectively.

In the 200m, J.J. Rosenberg took fourth in the event with a mark of 22.23 seconds.

Tony Crisofulli continued his comeback tour for Portland State, taking ninth in the 400-meter event, recording a time of 50.61.

The men's relay teams got to run in their first races of the outdoor season as the 4x100-meter relay team of Kubisiak, Sheldon Prince, Ovgard and Major Oni took fourth with a time of 42.99 seconds. Meanwhile the 4x400 team of Kubisiak, Crisofulli, Prince and Rosenberg came in third with a mark of 3:23.92.

Rockwell Tufty got back at it after an impressive indoor season, taking second in the high jump with a height of 6' 4” (1.93m) while Mackelvie also competed in the event and jumped to a mark of 6' 0” (1.83m) and a ninth-place showing.

Selmar Hutchins competed in the javelin event and took third with a final mark of 174-11.50 (53.32m).

The Vikings will next be in action when the teams travel to Sacramento, Calif., to take part in the Mondo Invite on April 12-13. Both sessions are slated to begin at 8 a.m.
