NCAA Softball Tournament Bracket
PORTLAND – The Portland State softball team will head to the NCAA Seattle Regional this Friday-Sunday, May 17-19 for NCAA first round action. The Vikings earned the Big Sky Conference's automatic qualifying bid after winning the conference tournament last weekend in Pocatello, Idaho.
"We have a good number of kids from the Seattle area who are excited to go home,” Echo-Hawk said following the announcement. “Against Washington we kind of know what to expect, we've seen their pitcher before. I think head-to-head we match up against Washington.”
Washington is the national No. 11 seed and will be the host and No. 1 seed in the regional. Hawai'i is the No. 2 seed and will open the regional against No. 3 seed Minnesota on Friday. No. 4 seed Portland State will take on Washington at 6 p.m. Friday.
This will be Portland State's fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last five years under Head Coach Tobin Echo-Hawk. The Vikings went to the Palo Alto Regional in 2009, the Seattle Regional in 2011, and the Eugene Regional in 2012 where they earned their second tournament win in program history, first under Echo-Hawk.
“I think we kind of set the tone last year by winning our first tournament game and hopefully this will be the year,” Echo-Hawk added. “This group is really focused. They've set the goal of going to a Super Regional so if any group is going to do it, this will be it.”
All session and single game tickets will be available Monday by calling (206) 543-2200. All session reserved tickets are $36 and all session general admission adult are $24.
There will be a live audio broadcast and live stats for all the Portland State games. Links can be found on the softball schedule page at GoViks.com.
