Viking Golfers Compete At U.S. Open Qualifier


Five Portland State golfers participated in the 36-hole U.S. Open Women's Sectional Qualifier Monday at Waverley Country Club in Portland on Monday. They were playing for two spots in the US Women's Open at Sebonack Golf Club, South Hampton, NY, June 27-30. Kelli Bowers and Karinn Dickinson were co-medalists, earning those spots, after tying at two-over par 146. Local professional Allison Hanna was third at 149.


For Portland State, senior Britney Yada shot 77-77=154 to tie for 13th. Viking sophomores Kelly Miller and A Ram Choi each posted 75-80=155 to tie for 18th among 48 competitors at the qualifier.


Waverley Country Club played at 6,159 yards and a par of 72.

Freshman Kristin Henno carded an 82-80=162 (40th). Riley Leming, also a freshman, shot 80-86=166 (t43rd).


Madisen Bentley, who has signed a national letter of intent to play at Portland State in 2013-14, also competed and shot 83-78=161. Bentley finished in a tie for 36th.


Portland State Women's Golf finished second at the Big Sky Conference Championship in April.
