Vinson Just Outside The Top 10 After Day One at NCAA Nationals

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Joenisha Vinson ended day one of the 2013 NCAA national track and field championships in 11th place overall in the heptathlon, in Eugene, Ore on Thursday. Vinson tallied a total of 3392 points through four of the seven events.

Vinson began the day in the 100-meter hurdle event, tallying her highest point total of the session, taking 11th overall, clocking in at 13.76.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native's next event was the high jump as she recorded a final distance of 1.63 (5-04.25), placing 18th in the event. She then pushed her point total to 1784.

In her third event, Vinson tallied her highest placing of the day, coming in seventh during the shot put, recording a distance of 12.68m (41-07.25) and an overall point total of 2490.

To conclude the day Vinson took part in the 200-meter dash, taking 13th overall with a time of 24.84 and 902 points.

Arakansas' Makeba Alcide takes the top-honors in the final 3685 while Erica Bougard from Mississippi State (3581) and Lindsay Vollmer of Kansas (3569), rounded out the top three.

Vinson will complete the heptathlon looking to break her school-record of 5488 as she will compete in the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run tomorrow. Follow the links above to see the live results stream in from the University of Oregon.
