Vinson Finishes Career With One More Broken Record at NCAA National Track and Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Portland State senior Joenisha Vinson, wrapped-up her Viking career on Friday, as she finished the final three events of the Heptathlon at the NCAA national meet in Eugene, Ore. She completed the meet doing something she's done quite a bit of in her PSU career, setting the new PSU standard in the Heptathlon, finishing with a point total of 5563.

The Phoenix, Ariz, native entered the day with a total of 3392 points and an 11th-place finish.

Vinson got off to as strong start coming in 10th in the long jump, posting a distance of 5.93-meters (19-5.5). The 828 points she received pushed her point total to 4,220.

Next was the javelin throw for Vinson, as she tallied a mark of 36.73 (120-6). That was good for 16th overall, adding another 605 points to her overall score.

Vinson finished the event with the 800-meter run coming in with a time of 2:26.47 as the senior finished her final event in 19th place and tallied 738 points, breaking her final record as a member of Portland State.

Vinson finishes a historic season that saw a laundry list of accolades. Vinson finished the year with a Big Sky title in the heptathlon, earning a co-most outstanding performance award at the conference tournament. She broke the heptathlon record twice in 2013 as well.

The Vikings concluded the season with the best overall finish at the conference tournament since 2006 as the women's team took second overall.
