EUGENE, Ore. — The Portland State track and field teams hit nine Big Sky qualifying marks Saturday, as they opened their respective outdoor seasons at the Oregon Preview at Hayward Field.

Freshman Genna Settle and sophomore Michael Kubisiak gave the Vikings two Big Sky qualifiers while winning their respective sides of the women's and men's 100 meters Saturday. Settle won the women's 100 meters in 12.00 seconds, qualifying her for the Big Sky meet and moving her to 10th all-time at Portland State in the event.

Kubisiak, meanwhile, won the men's 100 meters in 10.72 seconds, blowing away his old personal best of 11.00 seconds. Kubisiak's time also moved him up to fifth all-time in the 100 meters at Portland State.

Junior Jazmin Ratcliff placed first in the women's 100-meter hurdles as well, as she crossed the line in 14.14 seconds, ahead of freshman teammate CeCelia Jackson, who placed second in the event in 14.32 seconds. Both Ratcliff and Jackson's times qualify them for the Big Sky meet in the event.

Sophomore Sheldon Prince, meanwhile, placed second in both the 200 and 400 meters Saturday, and set new personal bests in each event. Prince became just the second runner in program history to crack 48 seconds in the outdoor 400 meters, as he finished in 47.88 seconds. Prince also moved up to sixth all-time in the 200 meters at PSU with his time of 21.81 seconds. Kubisiak placed fourth in the 200 meters while tying his personal best of 22.18 seconds in the event as well.

Additionally, freshmen Whitney Diggs and Baileh Simms, All-Big Sky performers during the indoor season, hit qualifying marks in the 400 meters and long jump, respectively. Diggs, who broke the school record in the indoor 400 meters at the Big Sky Indoor Championships at the beginning of the month, moved up to fourth all-time in the outdoor 400 meters with her time of 56.99 seconds Saturday. Simms, meanwhile, placed second in the long jump Saturday with a jump of 18-07.25 (5.67m). Simms' jump moves her up to eighth all-time in the event at Portland State.

Sophomores Sydney Johnson and Rockwell Tufty also hit qualifying marks in the women's discus and men's high jump, respectively, Saturday. Johnson qualified for the conference meet with her throw of 141-08 (43.17m) in the discus, while Tufty qualified in high jump with a top mark of 6-07.50 (2.02m).

Outside of the Big Sky qualifiers, seniors Sarah Dean and Nevin Lewis moved up the PSU career lists in the women's 3,000 meters and men's pole vault, respectively. Dean moved up to third all-time in the 3,000 meters with her time of 9:45.97 Saturday, while Lewis moved up to fourth all-time in the pole vault with his mark of 14-07.25 (4.45m).

Sophomore Tyson Stipic also edged his personal best in the triple jump, jumping 43-10.75 (13.38m) Saturday to break his old personal best by less than an inch.

The Portland State track and field teams will compete at two different meets next weekend, as some athletes will compete at the Victor Lopez Classic, March 27-29, in Houston Texas, while the another group of athletes will compete at the Willamette Invitational, March 28-29, in Salem, Ore.
