Jazmin Ratcliff finished just short of qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday, as the Vikings wrapped competition at the NCAA West Preliminary meet at John McDonnell Field.
Â
Ratcliff ran the 100-meter hurdles in 13.53 seconds to finish sixth in the third heat of the event Saturday, less than a tenth of a second behind the final time qualifier in the event, USC's Melia Cox at 13.44.
Â
The top three finishers in each of the three heats advanced to nationals automatically, while the three runners with the next-best times advance to nationals on time. Ratcliff finished 17th overall Saturday, five spots behind Cox in 12th.
Â
Ratcliff's time Saturday represented an improvement over her time of 13.77 seconds in the first round of the event Friday, however, and marks her third-best time ever in the event.
Â
Ratcliff and the Vikings also competed in the quarterfinals of the women's 4x100-meter relay Saturday, and finished 20th overall in 46.39 seconds.
Â
The NCAA West Preliminary marks the end of the Vikings' collegiate season, though freshman
CeCelia Jackson hit the USATF Junior National qualifying standard in the heptathlon and should be in good position to compete at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships from July 5-6 in Eugene, Ore.
