Jackson Opens Heptathlon at USATF Junior Outdoor Combined Events Championships Wednesday

MEET INFORMATION

PORTLAND, Ore. — Freshman CeCelia Jackson of the Portland State women's track and field team opens competition in the heptathlon Wednesday, June 25, at the USATF Junior Outdoor Combined Events Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
 
Jackson qualified for junior nationals in the heptathlon after scoring 4,864 points in the event at the Big Sky Championships on May 15, surpassing the qualifying standard of 4,800 points. Jackson's score at the Big Sky Championships ranks her 11th among the declared competitors in the heptathlon going into the meet. Ashlee Moore of Elite Athletics holds the highest score of the declared competitors going into the meet with a best of 5,311 points.
 
The first day of the junior heptathlon begins with the 100-meter hurdles at 12 p.m. (PT) Wednesday, and concludes with the 200 meters at 5:15 p.m. The second day of the competition will then start with the long jump at 10:30 a.m. (PT) Thursday, and conclude with the 800 meters at 2 p.m.
 
Sacramento State University will host the USATF Junior Outdoor Combined Events Championships in conjunction with their role as hosts of the 2014 USATF Senior Outdoor Championships, which begin Thursday, June 26. The rest of the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships are scheduled for July 5-6 in Eugene, Ore., where the Vikings currently have two qualifiers in Whitney Diggs (women's 400 meters) and Gifton Okoronkwo (men's triple jump).
