Portland State linebacker AJ Schlatter has been named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week after putting in a career effort in a 34-31 win at Eastern Washington last Saturday.
Schlatter, a redshirt freshman from Canby, had a career-high 12 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in the Viking win. He was part of a defense that held the Eagles to 111 yards in the second half as the Vikings came from behind for the win.
The 6-2, 205-pound Schlatter has been a starter all season, compiling 56 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and coming up with two fumble recoveries and the interception.
Schlatter is the seventh Viking and fourth defensive player to earn Big Sky Player of the Week honors this season (David Jones, offense; Aaron Sibley, Patrick Onwuasor, Xavier Coleman, defense; Kahlil Dawson, Jonathan Gonzales, special teams).
