HUSKY CLASSIC RECAP - DAY ONE | DAY TWO

SEATTLE, Wash. — Senior Rockwell Tufty tied the school record in the indoor high jump while moving into a tie for second in the Big Sky as the Portland State track & field team concluded its indoor regular season at the UW Open Sunday at the Dempsey Indoor facility.
 
Tufty cleared 6-09.00 (2.06m) on his third attempt at the height, tying the school record that former NCAA All-American Nick Trubachik set in 2009. Tufty, who won the event Sunday, also took three attempts at 2.07 meters, which would have given him the record on his own, but missed on all three attempts.
 
Tufty now ranks tied with Montana's Matt Quist for second in the Big Sky this season, just behind Weber State's Anthony Gregory, who leads the conference with his mark of 6-10.75 (2.10m) at the Wildcat Winter Open on Dec. 4 of last year.
 
Besides Tufty, several other Vikings closed out the 2016 indoor regular season on a high note, including redshirt senior Dejuanae Toliver, who moved up to 20th in the Big Sky in the 400 meters with a seasonal-best time of 57.87 seconds.

Freshman Tyler Dent also threw a personal-best 47-05.25 (14.46m) in the weight throw, moving him up to third all-time in the event at Portland State.
 
Freshmen Kaila Ann Gibson and Nevina De Luca also each set new personal bests in the women's mile, as they finished in 5:05.60 and 5:25.38, respectively.
 
Additionally, the Vikings had four athletes set seasonal bests in the women's 3,000 meters, while Kennedy Martin and Jocelyn Reynolds set personal bests of 10:45.48 and 10:49.83, respectively. Juniors Cheryn Trapp and Maggie Coleman led the group of four with a pair of seasonal bests, as they finished in 10:11.89 and 10:40.13, respectively.
 
The Vikings will now take a week off before heading to the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Bozeman, Mont., next weekend. The Vikings will compete at the meet from Feb. 25-27.
