Settle Extends Her Reign at The House of Track, Winning Second Straight 200 at TrackTown USA High Performance Meet #4

RESULTS

PORTLAND, Ore. —
A day after sweeping the 60 and 200 meters at the Portland Indoor Invitational, junior sprinter Genna Settle pulled out her second straight win in the 200 meters at the TrackTown High Performance Meet #4 Friday at The House of Track in Portland.

Settle edged Washington's Sierra Peterson by a hundredth of a second, winning in 24.72 seconds to Peterson's 24.73 seconds. Settle also beat out professional athletes in the 200-meter field Friday, as well as her Portland State teammates Whitney Diggs (6th, 25.20), Dejuanae Toliver (14th, 26.57) and Roazena Miller (15th, 26.68).

Like Settle, junior Akayla Anderson also followed up a strong performance at the Portland Indoor Invitational Thursday with another strong performance Friday. Anderson shaved a couple ticks off her time in the 60-meter hurdles Thursday while placing second in the prelims of the event in 8.70 seconds. Anderson then placed third in the finals of the event in 8.78 seconds, giving her two times faster than the 8.79 she ran in the event Thursday.

Anderson's time in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles gave the junior the Big Sky qualifying mark in the event, and solidified her hold on second place in the conference this season. Anderson placed second to teammate Jazmin Ratcliff in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles at last season's Big Sky meet, finishing in a personal-best 8.40 seconds.

Sophomore Nyalual Beng and senior Kris Tollefson also each set personal bests in the women's 800 meters for the second straight day. Beng and Tollefson finished second and third in the B section of the 800, respectively, crossing the line in 2:16.47 and 2:17.20. Beng's time moves her up to 10th all-time in the 800 meters at Portland State, edging her past Jill Salmon, who had ranked 10th all-time off her finish in 2;16.65 in 2000.

Junior Ben Richardson also set a personal best in the men's 800 meters Thursday, finishing in 1:54.69 to move him up to 10th in the Big Sky – just ahead of teammate Spencer Russell at 1:54.70 -- in the event this season.

Sophomore Ta'mara Richey, meanwhile, set a seasonal best in the long jump with her mark of 18-03.75 (5.58m) at the meet, moving her up to fourth in the Big Sky in the event this season.

Sophomore heptathlete Donté Robinson also set a new personal best in the high jump, as he cleared 6-04.75 (1.95m) to move into a tie for eighth all-time in the event at Portland State.

The Vikings will now close out their indoor regular season at the Husky Classic next weekend, Feb. 12-13, at Dempsey Indoor facility in Seattle, Wash.
