LAWRENCE, Kan. — After a stormy Thursday, the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds got under Friday with three members of the Portland State track & field team competing on the regional stage at Rock Chalk Park on the campus of the University of Kansas.
Â
Amanda Boman got the day started for the Vikings, as she placed 35th overall in the women's 10,000 meters in 36:21.78. Junior
Genna Settle followed Boman on the track in the quarterfinals of the women's 100 meters, and finished fifth in her heat in 11.74 seconds.
Spenser Schmidt then rounded out the day for the Vikings with a 30th-place finish in the men's long jump with a best jump of 23-02.00 (7.06m).
Â
None of the Vikings' finishes were good enough to qualify for nationals Friday, but the Vikings will get another crack at it Saturday, as they'll compete in three more events tomorrow.
Â
Akayla Anderson will open the day for the Vikings with the quarterfinals of the women's 100-meter hurdles at 11:30 a.m. (CT). Settle will then return to the track for the quarterfinals of the women's 200 meters at 12:30 p.m. (CT), the same time the women's triple jump will get underway, with
ChaQuinn Cook competing in the third flight for the Vikings.
