DAY 1 RECAP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
The Portland State track & field team closed the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Saturday, wrapping the final Big Sky tune-up for several of the Vikings' top athletes.

Seniors Genna Settle and Akayla Anderson wrapped the meet in the prelims of the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles, respectively, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Settle, who set a seasonal best in the 60 and 200 meters on the first day of the meet Friday, posted her second-best time in the 60 meters in 2017 with her time of 7.60 seconds Saturday. Settle's time ranks second only to the time of 7.55 seconds she set Friday, and marked the fifth straight time Settle has cracked 7.65 seconds in the 60 this season.

Anderson, meanwhile, finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds Saturday. Anderson heads into the Big Sky meet ranked third in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles, but holds the top non-converted time within the Big Sky behind her time of 8.60 seconds at the UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 14. Anderson has also been remarkably consistent in the 60-meter hurdles this season, as all 10 of her times in the event in 2017 have been in the range of 8.60 to 8.72 seconds.

Fellow senior Mitchell Gable finished the 400 meters in 48.87 seconds, nearly matching the personal best he set at the Idaho Duals last week. Gable ran the 400 in 48.73 seconds at the Idaho Duals, moving him up to second all-time in the event at Portland State. Gable also moved up to third all-time in the 200 meters with his time at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Friday, as he finished in 22.03 seconds to set a new personal best by more than three-tenths of a second.

Sophomore Rachel Vinjamuri ran in the women's 400 meter as well, and nearly matched the seasonal best she set at the Idaho Duals last Friday. Vinjamuri finished the 400 in 57.12 seconds, just over a tenth of a second behind her time of 57.01 seconds last week.

The Vikings will have a small group of athletes compete at the UW Indoor Open Sunday, but the Vikings at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational will now look towards the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Pocatello, Idaho, Feb. 23-25.
