OGDEN, Utah — Senior
Genna Settle ticked off another item on her career to-do list Monday, as the three-time Big Sky champion picked up the first Big Sky Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor of her career.
Â
Settle had been honored indoors, but the outdoor athlete of the week honor was an odd absence from Settle's resume considering her three Big Sky titles and nine-career All-Big Sky honors.
Â
Settle earned her first-career honor outdoors after winning the 200 meters at the Willamette Invitational Saturday in 24.09 seconds. Settle's time Saturday gives her the top two times in 200 within the Big Sky this season, following her Big Sky-leading time of 23.97 seconds at the Trojan Invitational on March 18.
Â
Settle leads the No. 2 time in the conference – 24.24 seconds by Northern Arizona's Jasmine Malone – by more than a quarter of a second, and leads the No. 3 time – 25.03 seconds by Northern Colorado's Brianna Pardner – by more than a full second.
Â
Settle entered the outdoor season as the preseason favorite for the 200 within the Big Sky, after winning the Big Sky title indoors while breaking the school, conference and championship records with her time of 23.75 seconds at the conference indoor meet.
Â
Settle and the Vikings will return to L.A. this weekend, as they compete at two different meets at UCLA Friday and Saturday. The Vikings' distance runners will compete at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival Friday, while Settle and the rest of the Vikings compete at the Legends of Track & Field Invitational Friday and Saturday.
