CORVALLIS, Ore. — Ceil Dunleavy is meant to be outdoors.
The freshman high jumper from Wasilla, Alaska, missed the entire 2018 indoor season but has made a splash so far during the outdoor season, with her latest standout performance coming Saturday at the OSU High Performance meet at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
Dunleavy won the high jump – her second win out of three meets this season – with a PSU personal-best clearance of 5-05.75 (1.67m). Dunleavy came into the meet ranked tied for eighth all time in the high jump at Portland State, but took over eighth place all time on her own with her mark Saturday.
Kamal-Craig Golaube came into Saturday's meet ranked eighth all time in the men's 110-meter hurdles, and while he didn't move up the rankings, he shaved four-hundredths of a second off his time with his finish in 14.81 seconds.
Golaube also set a new overall personal best in the 400-meter hurdles while finishing in 56.69 seconds. Golaube set his previous best at 56.89 seconds two weeks ago at the Pelluer Invitational, and beat that time by two-tenths of seconds Saturday.
Katie Baxter mirrored Golaube with new bests in the women's 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, as she an overall personal best in the 100-meter hurdles and a PSU personal best in the 400-meter hurdles. Baxter finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15.43 seconds, close to four-tenths of a second better than her previous best of 15.81 seconds. Baxter, meanwhile, finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.17, more than three-tenths of a second better than her previous best at PSU, set this season at 1:03.48 at the Al Manuel Northwest Dual Invite.
Austen Hvidsten won the fifth section of the men's 800 meters in a new personal-best time of 1:55.40. Hvidsten beat the field by close to 2.5 seconds, and beat his previous best in the event by more than a quarter of a second.
Kristen O'Handley tied her personal best in the 200 meters while finishing in 25.20 seconds.
Maya Jackson beat her PSU personal best in the 200 meters outright, as she finished in 25.71 seconds.
Jean Rwandika added a final new PSU personal best for the Vikings in the men's javelin, as he placed third in the event with a best throw of 175-00 (53.34m).
The Vikings will next compete at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, May 8-11, in Moscow, Idaho.
