Signed an aid agreement with the Vikings for 2011... a JC Gridwire All-American for Cerritos Junior College in 2010... named first team All-American by the JC Athletic Bureau and first team All-California Region 4... led the Falcons to a 9-3 record while compiling 107 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, forcing two fumbles and recovering two fumbles... as a freshman in 2009, was named second team All-Conference, finishing with 61 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups and an interception... missed 2008 season with injury.

“Myles is a great example of ‘when a kid tells you no, always be nice.’ In the end we kept a great relationship, and it paid off when it looked like it wasn’t working out for him the way he planned at Texas Tech. He is a big, strong, mature kid, who is already going to have his degree and wants to come home and play in front of  family and friends.”

Played two seasons at Texas Tech and will complete his degree at the end of winter term... transferring to Portland State to enter graduate school... played in six games at Texas Tech in 2010, starting twice... had six tackles and one sack on the season... made a season-high four tackles and a sack at Iowa State.... first career start came against fourth-ranked Texas... played in four games in 2009, making two tackles... originally attended Arizona Western JC and played one season before transferring to Texas Tech... earned second team All-American honors as he made 62 tackles and 7.5 sacks.

Nigel Burton on Davis: “Mike is the wild man of this class. He came to our camp this summer and really impressed our coaching staff with how hard he played, his athleticism, and his size. His burst, his route-running, his avility to catch the ball very natural and very fluid... what excited me was his athleticism, even more than his production.”

Lettered in football four times at Cottage Grove High School where he was named second team All-State at the 4A level in 2010... earned first team All-Sky Emerald honors as a wide receiver, kick returner and defensive back for league champion Cottage Grove... named the league’s offensive MVP... also his team MVP... caught 69 passes for 1,597 yards and 26 touchdowns... also had 27 rushing plays for 393 yards and three touchdowns... had 302 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a win over Yreka (CA)... 36 tackles and four interceptions on defense... had 56 catches for 1,090 yards and 16 TDs as a junior... broke 21 school records... his final play was a school-record 98-yard punt return for touchdown... a four-year letterman in track and lettered once in baseball... member of the National Honor Society.

Nigel Burton on Richard: “Shaq is probably one of the most decorated players ever to come to Portland State. He played in three straight state championship games. He had 163 yards rushing in the state championship game this year. He brings the level of success that we want to be infectious within this football team. He is a great kid, very smart. We are lucky to have him. He has big time speed. We think he is a Cory McCaffrey-type guy with even better straight line speed.”

“Tyler is a big, good-looking athlete from Crater High School. He was their starting quarterback. It was wild when you watched the film, because he was the biggest guy on the field, but he was also the fastest guy on the field. Those are the kind of guys we want to recruit every year: the 6-3, 220 or 230 pound guy who can run. We will look around and see where he will end up at, because he is truly an athlete who can play five positions at the Division I level.”

Coach (Bruce) Barnum went to watch him play this fall with his two sons, and one of his sons said, ‘Dad, I don’t know what he will play, but he is really fast.’ David will be a guy that we will have to figure out if he is a DB, a wide receiver, a running back... what he will be to help us. He is smart, fast, tough and 205 pounds.”

Nigel Burton on Jackson:
“Demetrius is not a very big guy. But my philosophy has always been, ‘yeah, you like those 6-1 corners, but if you’ve got a smaller guy who is able to take over a game, take him.’ When you watch Demetrius, he takes games over with interceptions, fumbles caused, fumbles recovered, touchdown runs, punt returns, kick returns. He is going to be a guy who will surprise a lot of people. I think he will play early.”

Nigel Burton on Edison: “Cornelius is one of the most interesting guys, because when you watch him on film, he never came off the field except for kickoff team (in high school). He was on offense, defense and every other (special) team. For a guy who weighs 285 pounds to do that is pretty phenomenal. He is also going to walk in the door (at PSU) as one of the strongest linemen on our team and he is only 17 or 18 years old. I think he has tremendous upside.”

Nigel Burton on Loftin: "Gage Loftin is a guy that gives us the best of both worlds and is able to complement (returner) Kyle McMillin in terms of being athletic enough to stretch the defense, but also strong enough at the point of attack for our run game. He is a real mature kid and we are going to count on his leadership and maturity with the young football team that we have."

Portland State Football Signs Four During Early JC Signing Period

The Portland State football program signed four junior college student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early junior college signing period (Dec. 15-Jan. 15).

Viking Football Coach Nigel Burton announced the signing of offensive lineman Anthony Moxley (6-6, 315, Mt. San Jacinto College), tight end Gage Loftin (6-4, 245, Snow Junior College), linebacker Khalil Bass (6-2, 230, College of the Canyons) and wide receiver Kenny Davis (6-2, 190, Los Angeles Pierce Junior College). All four signees should be on campus for spring term and eligible to play spring football, which begins in April.


Bass played in 10 games at College of the Canyons, compiling 52 tackles, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumbles recoveries. He earned second team All-Northern Conference honors.


In nine games, Davis had 38 catches for 701 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 18.5 yards per reception and earned second team All-Pacific Conference.


Moxley was a starting offensive lineman at Mt. San Jacinto College.


Loftin played in eight games at Snow College, catching 21 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns.
