Mike Lund has been with the PSU Athletic Department since 1989 in the Office of Athletics Media Relations. He currently holds the title of Associate Athletics Director for Media and Communications.
Lund is the Portland State Athletic Department’s primary contact for all sports media and has covered virtually every sport at PSU during time with the program.
Lund is responsible for department media relations, press releases, publications, content on PSU’s internet site, game management, broadcast services, and the program's live streaming video of sporting events. He reports to league and national offices, and interacts with all forms of media interested in PSU’s athletic programs. Lund is the primary contact for football, men’s basketball and golf, as well as administrating Portland State’s media relations efforts, budgeting and serving on the department leadership team. He is the sport supervisor for the women's golf and women's tennis programs.
In 2007, Lund was recognized by Viking football with the Charles Withers Award, presented to those who have made significant contributions to the program. In 2019, he received a 30-year service award from Portland State University.
During his career, Lund has been nationally honored for his publications work by the College Sports Communicators organization a dozen times. He had Best In The Nation publications in football (2002) and volleyball (1995), as well as two media guides placing second in the nation and two placing third.
In the spring of 2000, Lund was the media coordinator for the Women’s NCAA West Regional Basketball Tournament hosted by PSU. He has also coordinated media services for an NCAA national championship (volleyball, 1992) and two Big Sky Conference basketball tournaments (2005, 2008), while assisting at conference championships in golf and track and field.
A member of the College Sports Communicators, Lund was the West Regional Coordinator for the Division II All-America basketball team for two years. He also was the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Information Director from 1992-96.
Lund keeps statistics for Portland Trail Blazers’ home games and has done so since 1987, including working three NBA Finals. Additionally, he has worked as a statistician and media representative at local sporting events too numerous to count at the high school, collegiate, professional and international level.
A 1987 graduate of Lewis & Clark College, Lund spent two years working at his alma mater as Sports Information Director before coming to PSU.
Mike and his wife, Cheri, live in Portland. They have two children, Lucas and Gracie.Â
